Missions - Local Missions

God gives each of us gifts and talents to be used to build up the body of Christ that we may express God's love and grace to a hurting world.  Review some of our church's opportunities listed below.  Call the contact person to join in this adventure of growing in Christ, growing together as a church body, and getting to see God at work in our midst.   If you cannot decide, call Ruth Demby and she will help you!

In Atlanta with Eagle's Nest Ministry. Join Jimmy McGowan and Larry Arnold for four days of urban ministry with poor, homeless, and incarcerated people located in inner-city Atlanta and the metro Atlanta area. The projects include: feeding breakfast to the poor and homeless, small renovations and building projects, dinner and evangelism at the Hall County Correctional Institution. In addition, we'll have a cookout with a jumping castle for kids at the Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Palmetto, Georgia. Ongoing Opportunities

Join us as we visit the Hall County Correctional Institution (HCCI)! Pastor Larry Arnold from Eagle's Nest Ministry leads Bible study and our men help mentor. Contact Jimmy McGowan at jcm@sterileworks.com or 678-485-1942 to get involved!

Women's Prison Ministry

Promising Futures After-School Program
Tuesdays from 4:00pm-6:00pm
We have adopted a low income apartment complex a mile from our church. Each Tuesday afternoon volunteers drive buses to pick up the children (ages Pre-K-Middle School) and bring them back to the Family Life Center. We provide recreation, art, gardening, cooking and other life skills education, as well as a Bible Message and 50 minutes of one-on-one tutoring. This is truly a time to express God's love and to receive God's love as we see God at work in these loving children. Call Janice Hale to join in, 678-963-0567.

Community Food Pantry
Serve on a team that bags and gives out food to those referred by churches.  Several times a year our church members serve 3-hour shifts from 11:40 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday or Friday to bag and distribute the food at the office in the Foundation Building on Oak Street. We also help with two Food Drives at our church during Lent and Advent.  Please call Judy Barrett to see how you can be involved in this needed ministry, 770-536-3328.

Estes-Dozier Missions Group
Join this group that meets for mission's education, support, and activities. There is so much that our church members and our Cooperative Baptist Fellowship are doing locally and around the globe. We meet on the second Monday of every month during the school year from 10:15 - 11:30 a.m. This is a great way to be informed and involved in God's mission. Contact Ruth Demby if you are interested, 770-534-7354.

The Bridge Ministry
Each Sunday afternoon our church member, Clint Anderson, and others from different area churches reach out to homeless folk who live near the I-985 Gainesville exit. They provide an outdoor worship service, a meal, and support for this population. Call Clint if you want to experience ministry outside the walls of the church and beyond our normal social spheres, 770-337-0038.

English as a Second Language and Citizenship Classes
These classes have been two of the most rewarding mission ministries at First Baptist for decades. Through classes held Sunday morning, Tuesday morning, and Wednesday evening, adults from countless different countries have learned English and have equipped themselves to take the test necessary to become a citizen of our country. Training is available for teachers and the rewards are immense. Contact: Evelyn Perry (770) 534-0509
